Tottenham’s Bryan Gil has liked a post on his X account which takes a dig at the poor refereeing decision early on in the game against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa’s Diego Carlos seemed to have deliberately elbow the Spurs midfielder in the side of the head just four minutes into the game.

But the incident went unpunished with the player escaping any punishment, avoiding both a sending off as well as a penalty.

Gil was left frustrated by what had happened and although he could not voice his thoughts without upsetting the FA, he has certainly expressed his discontent through his social media activity.

He liked a tweet from a Spurs fan account, criticising the referee’s call. The account shared the video of the incident along with the caption: “This isn’t a penalty apparently?”

Tottenham took the lead against Villa through a brilliant strike from Giovani Lo Celso. And could have scored at least 3 more goals in the game.

But it was Aston Villa who came out winners. Torres equalised with a great header late in the first half stoppage time befoe Watkins scored the winner in the 61st minute.

Despite the defeat, the performance from Tottenham was outstanding. The scoreline does not reflect the result, with both sides creating a number of chances specially Spurs, who had a number of goals disallowed, missed three sitters, and saw Emiliano Martinez make a series of outstanding saves to deny them.

On any other day, they could have easily scored five goals but it was not to be.
